Super Pro VAG Trophy

The basic ethos of the V.A.G. Trophy Championship is of close racing with good driving standards, at low cost, in a friendly and helpful environment. The current committee comprises of John Hillon, Phil Bowler and Ian Carvell (please see ‘meet the team’ section).

All are unsalaried and have full time jobs outside the racing activities. We prioritise offering excellent value for money in all our racing activities, taking into account the risk involved (the committee are liable if a financial loss is made !). We have always negotiated hard to reduce grid costs where possible and use money from sponsors as a balancing factor when calculating on entry fees.

We aim for all race events to be sociable, with barbecues featuring during the season and the now legendary ‘End of Season Bash’ and award ceremony, which is always an entertaining evening, with 80 + guests (and some VERY late nights !).

As V.A.G. enthusiasts, we have worked to provide various platforms to allow as many cars from the VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda marques to race as possible. In 2009 the V.A.G. Trophy was added to the successful Mk2 Golf GTI Championship event, to provide a stage for more highly modified machinery and a focussed home for many V.A.G. vehicles which do not readily fit into other race series. In addition to this, competitors who wish to modify their cars beyond the Mk2 Golf GTI Championship specification can race in one of the classes too.

For 2011 we have outlined the regulations for a third race event, which will follow on very much in the spirit of the original Mk2 Golf GTI Series, namely the Mk3 Golf GTITDI Challenge. The regulations will be similar to those for the Mk2 Championship, but will allow diesel (TDI) versions additionally. These cars will be a little quicker than the Mk2s and, with control parts, we believe that a car can be built for around £4000. The vehicles will run in classes C1 & C2 of the V.A.G. Trophy. In summary, we will work hard to provide the best stage for our competitors to race, in a friendly, open and honest environment.
